EXPLORERS MISSIONS

  • Send photos or videos of activities to the library as you complete them. A certificate template will be emailed to you once we receive the first item. Badges from completed activities will be sent to you via email and can be copy and pasted into the certificate template as a record of your accomplishments!

  • Accumulated points can be turned in for small prizes and for chances on grand prizes. See the PRIZE PAGE for details.

Read books in the categories listed to earn a Bingo by composing a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, or each of the four corner squares. Note the book you read, then turn in your card to the book drop or email by August 15th. There will be a special prize if the whole card is completed. READERS THEATER

Participants will choose whether to use a published script or create their own. Meetings will be held via Zoom on June 8 & 22, July 6 & 20, and August 3 to prepare for an August 10 performance. The library will wait to determine how the performance will be held, but possibilities include (1) the group getting together and performing on Facebook Live and (2) performing on Zoom and  livestreaming to YouTube. STORY WALK

Take a StoryWalk® and enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book will be placed around Prospect, starting at the library's outdoor bulletin board next to the door facing Main Street. As you stroll through town, you'll be directed to the next page in the story. There are fun activities on the reverse side of the sign to do while walking. Take note of the hidden letter in the storybook pages at each stop. At the end, unscramble the letters for your keyword. Email or call the library with the keyword to get a $1 off coupon at Shmily's for each child participant.

STORYBOOK CASTLE

Turn a cardboard box into a captivating storybook castle. All you need are a cardboard box, scissors, ribbon, paint, paint brush, and props (ex. dolls, horses, books, wands, etc.). To read about creative play and learning activities in education, visit the Imagination Tree blog written by a teacher with specialisms in early education and art. Email the library using the link above with a picture of your child's castle to collect your points and badge.

DRAGONS: RETURN OF THE ICE SORCERESS

Long, long ago, two kids go on a daring adventure to find a dragon and save the kingdom from the Ice Sorceress! When things don’t go as planned, however, they must turn to themselves (and to science!) for the answer. A fun fantasy adventure with dry ice effects! The video will be available to you for unlimited, on-demand viewing from now through August 31. STORY SPINE

Write a story using the story spine method. The story spine is a technique from improvisation theater. It was popularized for storytelling by a Pixar Story Artist. Use the story spine to jumpstart your story and get a rough outline of events. It's a simple tool to break through the block of a blank page. This website can help get you started. 3 LITTLE PIGS STEAM PARTY

Read different versions of Three Little Pigs (see links below). Build different houses to represent the pigs' straw, stick and brick houses. Put them through "wolf tests" that include blowing on them through a toilet paper tube and turning a hairdryer or fan on them. Email the library at the link above to collect your points and badge.

DESIGN A MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURE

Read a story about magical creatures to find inspiration. Create your own magical creatures in the form of a puppet, drawing, sculpture, etc. using a variety of materials (e.g., cardboard, colored paper, felt, cloth scraps, popsicle sticks, feathers, fake fur, buttons, or beads). Incorporate the features of unicorns, dragons, and other magical creatures that you have read about in the books. Email a picture of your creature to the link above to collect your points and badge.

CHARACTER DRESS-UP

Dress-up as a favorite character from a book you love and have someone take a picture of you holding the book. Or if you are a fan of non-fiction books, show off a skill that you learned from reading a book. Send us your picture using the email link above to collect your points and badge.

FAIRY WALK OR GARDEN

Gather containers and dirt/moss/gravel filler. Supplies can be purchased and/or gathered from recycled household items. Look at pictures of fairy gardens online for inspiration. Design and decorate your garden however you wish. Email a picture to the library. Alternatively, go for a hike and draw or take a picture of a fairy home that you discover!
