PROSPECT
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
ABOUT THE
PROSPECT AREA LIBRARY
One of the staples of smaller libraries in western PA is that they’re typically rich in history, and that certainly rings true at Prospect Community Library as well.
The Prospect Community Library was founded in 1922 by a group of concerned citizens in the Prospect Woman's Club, who, not coincidentally, still make up the majority of Board Members to this very day. After its founding, the library was temporarily housed in private homes, store fronts, community centers and more for nearly five decades before finding a permanent home. In 1971, a small brick library was dedicated on Main Street, Prospect. An addition was added in 1990 and today we’re “bursting at the seams.”
